lyrics

ORPHEUS.

Orpheus he played, his lyre and sang to the Underworld.
Descended into Hades, charmed the tortured souls therein.
He had to find his wife, and bring her back to life again.

His beloved Eurydice was a nymph of oak, but she,
met her cruel end, when bitten by a snake when she was running away from Aristaeus along the river bank.

The Gods they did agree, to let her go as long as he,
never turned behind as they ascended up again.
But Orpheus he did not trust, and turned around to see.

So Orpheus lost his, beloved to the Underworld.
And Hades turned away, from all his please so tragically.
Poor Orpheus, melodious.
He never wed again.

Orpheus was killed, by all the lovers he had spurned.
They came at him with stones and clubs and tore him to pieces.
He only had his lyre and the muses wept for him.
